Participants of Karaoke Night

Karaoke night hosted by Seton’s own, Alex Gonzalez, was not only a success but an entertaining Friday night. To fund the play he wrote, and is directing, Alex decided to put on an enjoyable fundraiser. With the help of faculty, staff, classmates, and friends from the outside community, his karaoke night was a success. Although the event was in the commons, with the help of Mr. Wright, a stage was set up along with chairs for the audience. Alex was able to raise the required amount needed, actually exceeding his original goal due to all the support! The night opened with “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” by Elton John and Kiki Dee, a duet performed by Alex Gonzalez and Aislinn Hogan. As promised, Mr. Little performed a crowd favorite duet to the song “Me and God” by Josh Turner, alongside Kendra Brislawn after a mere two practices. The song, although emotional, spread smile among the audience, seeing our beloved principal and student sing the heartwarming song together. The majority of students who attended took the stage and performed with friends, sharing a laugh or two with the crowd.

Throughout the night we heard some classics such as “The Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” by Green Day and “Africa” by Toto, favorites “Party In The U.S.A.,” Miley Cyrus and “Love Story,” Taylor Swift, even including a little Japanese! Kendra Brislawn also performed a duet alongside Katie Arredondo, singing “Love Is An Open Door,” from the beloved Disney movie, Frozen. Keeping the disney theme we also heard “A Whole New World” from Aladdin performed by Alex Gonzalez and Mike Harter. Mike also performed the Drake and Josh theme song alongside his sister Mary Harter, the crowd loved the brother sister duo! Towards the end of the night we heard “Take on Me” and of course, “Fireflies” by Owl City. Alex really put himself out there, and showed us a unique creative side many, like myself, were unaware he had. Michael Gov photographed the event, capturing all the memories. Throughout he was incredibly encouraging of the performers, and made sure everyone that attended had a great time! We finished the night off hearing Alex preform Buddy Holly’s “Everyday” as everyone took the stage for a group photo.

Not only was this a fun night, but it drew our Seton community closer, supporting the same cause. The student body also grew by supporting one another, joining in with the performers on stage, clapping throughout, and cheering them on at the end. He has all the songs set up and pre loaded, even figuring out how to upload songs that didn’t have karaoke versions, going above and beyond to keep the audience entertained and happy. Alex inspired our Seton community, and exemplifies that hard work truly pays off. It has been said that Mr. Doucet will be performing at the up and coming karaoke night, mark your calendars for next time and don’t miss out on all the fun! Congratulations Alex, and don’t forget to come out and see Alex’s play in the Spring!
